Jeanne Hamer (nee Huntington) has put together a wonderfully detailed and exquisitely researched account of the Huntington line, beginning with the fact that they are direct descendants of Miles Standish and John Alden. Samuel Huntington (b. 1731) was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The reason the Huntingtons are of interest in this website is that my grandfather, George Sherwin, purchased his land on Crooked Creek in the Bighorn Canyon country from Roy Huntington, and my father, Wylie Sherwin, married Mildred Huntington in 1916. From that marriage came my four half-brothers and sisters, Virginia, Ted, Clifford and Betty. Chapter V of Jeanne’s book is where you will find the Huntington/Sherwin connection. I have presented all of the chapters, though, as well as Jeanne’s introduction and summary for those who may be researching Huntingtons. Russ Sherwin, 2010 |
